Born in São Gonçalo, Rio de Janeiro, André Passis started his journey on drums at Vila-Lobos Institute in Rio de Janeiro. In 2012 he started to study Brazilian rhythms at UNIRIO's music House of Choro and was tutored by the samba maestro Oscar Bolão. He started his drumming career within the underground punk rock scene of Rio de Janeiro and soon he became reference for mixing influences of Brazilian rhythms, hiphop beats and fills inside the rock and hardcore grooves. Along his career he performed a lot in the jazz, hiphop and northeastern instrumental music scenes of Brazil, always mixing a lot of originality and flavors he collect through out his journey. Recently Andre moved to Belgium and performed live shows around Europe with Hiphop-jazz, Samba Jazz and Afrobeat artists. Currently Passis has gathered two brilliant musicians from the Ghent conservatory (KASK): Daan Stynen (Piano) and Andreas Beeckman (Double Bass). Together they bring to light a fine selection of international and Brazilian grooved jazz themes from different generations, such as Roy Hardgroove, Miles Davis, Azimuth, João Donato, Banda Black Rio, etc. The trio promise to bring an energetic, groovy and dancing afternoon to the Lotto Brussels Jazz Weekend/2024.
